Chapter 1 : ºéÒ¹¢Í§àÃÒ Count me in  ( Sep - Oct 2008)

Starting this September, 100 Tonson Gallery will host an art project working with one of the region’s top artists, Chatchai Puipia.  This is Puipia’s first exhibition in many years; it also is the first time that Puipia works in collaboration with other artists in the area of film, photography, sculpture, video and literature.  Shane Bunnag, Kornkrit Jianpinidnun, Utai Nopsiri are among the artists involved in this project.  Apart from sculpture installation that will transform the visual presentation of 100 Tonson Gallery in the next several months, the content or focus of the exhibitions may vary according to different inputs of the collaborative artists.

Initiator and philosopher of the project, Chatchai Puipia said the idea of “A Leg- Up” was sparked from a small group of his tight-knit, art-loving friends who wanted to raise funds as grants for artists and writers, either to enable them to create their artworks or sometimes producing/ presenting something that would impact art society on a larger scale.   Apart from the grants and activities, A Leg- Up project will produce periodic publication for readers, who may need to be informed or may not admit they need to be informed or supported by this publication.

Viewers are welcome to visit the gallery to see this launching of A Leg -Up project in the next several months as usual.  For those who would like to be more involved, A Leg- Up project will be open to the public to apply for membership.  Details about membership applications and benefits will be announced soon but the very least that the member would receive is the publication produced and edited by Puipia.

Note:  The Thai name of this project, Chom Rom Kon Mai Ao Nai has more dimensions in its meaning than A Leg- Up.  Be warned if you would like to apply for membership.  Ask your friend what it means and whether you would be eligible to qualify.

A Leg Up Society   Chapter 2 : The House of Museum Showcase  ( Nov 2008)

In the second chapter of A Leg-Up Society, the master minder—Chatchai Puipia will mobilize artefacts from a noteworthy museum in the outskirt of Bangkok to the city’s central location of
100 Tonson Gallery.  Focusing on the visual art in the olden days, this chapter will take us back in time.

"The house of museum" has attracted visitors in the vicinity area to observe life in the past through donated objects and collection in this 3-storey privately-owned museum.  Our aim is not to imitate the museum entire setting but to exhibit selected few items from the museum collection with focus on artists and illustrators through displays of old magazines, books, and movies as well as recently published books by the museum founder, Anek Navikamul on the knowledge gained from the past.   A Leg Up Society hopes that this chapter will help distributing information about this charming destination for future visits by locals and foreigners alike.

A special talk (in Thai) by Anake Nawikamune , about the House of Museum and the Sketch Artists, who are not written about that much in publish, including cover artists, novel illustrators, cartoonists, textbook illustrators, advertisement artists, signage artists, artists that sketch medicine labels, fish sauce bottle labels, clothing label logos, package illustrations, and other artists in general.

What A Leg Up Society considers most important is that what can be learnt from the past can still be of great help when applied in current times.
