An Artist is Trying to Return to ‘Being a Writer’

Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook 28 Jun 2017 - 14 Jan 2018

Celebrating her 60th birthday which also marks the year she retired from her teaching career at Chiangmai Univeristy. 100 Tonson gallery invites the artist to go back to being a writer.

As one of the most prominent artists working in Thailand and overseas, Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook’s works was represented in international art events around the world and has been discussed in wide range of subjects from death, lamentation to the impossibility of communication. At this moment Araya recalls her incompleteness that has never been fulfilled. Implicating within the probability of betweenness, the artist considers the paradox of the overlapping role between artist and writer. Unlike her well-received career as an artist her writings has rarely been translated into other languages and unobserved by the international art scene. Araya is unsettled by her past role as a writer that never reach its peak and not to mention the present role as an artist.

Within an attempt to go back to being a writer emerges two sculptures and videos while continually reminiscing about prose and poetry.

Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook is presenting her ‘unresolvedness' from someone who is woking closely with creativity.
